We talked about harmony and dissonance, and experimented with note combinations on the piano to demonstrate how some notes sound good together and others don't. We looked inside the piano and talked about the mechanics of how all the parts work together to create the sounds of each note. We played the drums and played with the ukelele.
Basic piano, and discussion/activity about percussion instruments.
Lesson Outline
We played the piano a little and learned about middle C, and the 7 letters of the musical alphabet. We did a coloring sheet of a xylophone, and learned about percussion instruments. We watched some videos of people playing various songs on xylophones, marimbas, glockenspiels, and vibraphones. We discussed the differences and similarities, and talked about how they belong to the same family of percussion instruments as the drums. We did an activity completing note patterns and discussed quarter notes and eighth notes.
We played some rhythms with the hand percussion instruments. We played the castanets along to some guitar chord progressions, and then played with the different sounds on the electric keyboard.
