Jase and I began our session with a warm-up activity - focusing on math skills. Jase had difficulty with multiplication, division, and finding the area of a figure. Jase then began working on Topic 1: Understand Place Value - reviewing vocabulary such as digits, place value, period, and whole numbers. Jase practiced comparing numbers - identifying the correct sign, greater than, less than, or equal to (<, >, or =). We will begin Lesson 1 of Topic 1: Understand Place Value next week.
Today, Jase learned about the four purposes of writing: to inform, to persuade, to explain and to entertain. He completed an exercise practicing this skill. Jase continued practicing his hard and soft c and g sound differentiation. He completed a passage practicing this skill.
Jase worked on his art show project. He learned how to do a watercolor wash with yellow paint as his background. He then worked on adding color with watercolors to his design.
Jase worked on his realism project in Procreate. He worked using the soft brush to blend out his base colors. Then he went back in and added a brighter highlight using the soft pastel tool.
Jase and I began our session with a warm-up activity focusing on math skills. Jase and I then reviewed the Grade 5 Readiness Test - reviewing the last two pages. Jase had difficulty with multi-digit multiplication. During our next session, we will dive into our math workbook.
After a brief recall of events from chapters 1-5, Jase read chapter 6 of ‘My Father’s Dragon.’ Our focus while reading was monitoring for meaning and self correcting when necessary. We stopped to retell events from each page and Jase summarized the chapter after reading.
Jase used the beginning part of class to work on his realism work in Procreate. For the last part of class, he worked on helping me to paint the mural wall.
Today, Jase and I reviewed regular and irregular plural nouns. He completed an exercise where he had to think of an example for each rule. He completed a word search with irregular plural nouns.
