Jase completed a warm-up activity - focusing on math skills. Jase had difficulty with multiplication, division, and conversion. Jase illustrated the 'gallon man' to represent conversions such as gallons, quarts, pints, and cups. Lastly, Jase completed a Dr.Seuss multiplication riddle activity.
Today, Jase learned about regular and irregular plural nouns. He learned the rules for making plurals. We made a list of vowels and consonents for his reference. He completed an exercise where he selected the correct plural nouns in a paragraph.

Jase completed a warm-up activity - focusing on math skills. Jase had difficulty with multiplication, division, and rounding. Jase reviewed incorrect answers to two pages of the grade 5 readiness test. Lastly, Jase practiced multiplication facts with an egg carton and pom poms.
Today, Jase and I continued to work on his apple drawing. He worked on adding all the base colors and then blending them out using the soft brush. He then used the rest of class to finish working on the stem of his apple.
Today, I introduced Jase to the art program and went over the projects we will be doing this quarter. He chose what he wanted to start on and we began working. We started off with an exercise in value, tone and realism. We will be working for a week on a still life of an apple. He first learned the tools in Procreate, a digital drawing software. He learned how to draw, change pens, erase, change opacity, change the size of the brush and toggle layers.
After discussing Jase’s reading interests, he previewed four book selections and chose ‘My Father’s Dragon’ for his first read. We previewed the book, reading chapter titles and perusing illustrations, then read chapters 1 and 2. Jase agreed to read the book at home and be prepared to discuss the next chapter.

Jase continued reading chapters 4 and 5 of ‘My Father's Dragon’ after a discussion of chapters 1-3. Our focus was on reading accurately using syntax, visual, and meaning clues to determine unknowns. We also worked to develop self-monitoring for miscues.
Today, Jase and I reviewed the 5 steps of the writing process. He read 5 versions of the same paragraph and identified which stage of the writing process each was in. We reviewed hard and soft g and c. He read 3 paragraphs and categories words in the paragraphs as either hard or soft g or c.
