Today we used the computer and learned about several new instruments emerging in the field. We ended learning about different tunings for the guitar and how to utilize them.
We began learning the song Everything Has Changed. We worked through the chord progression and the rhythmic strum pattern. We talked about dropped tuning on the guitar since this song is played tuned 1/2 step down from standard tuning. However, we did not retune the guitars for this session, but we played the song in standard tuning.
Today we looked at a new songs and talked about the chords and the melody on top. We looked at the tabs as well as the chords charts to begin learning/memorizing the finger movements.
Max and I discussed several approaches to learning a song on the guitar. We looked over tabs, chords, and talked about playing by ear. We ended looking at several popular guitar players and the impact they had on the music industry.
Baylie did not have her guitar to actually play, so we spent the time reviewing some of the chords she has learned, and we discussed some goals that we would like to accomplish this year. She is going to make a list of songs that she would like to learn, and we will work on learning the appropriate chords, scales, and rhythms to play those.
Max and I talked about the three ways to think about the guitar. We looked at several popular songs and talked about how to play it using each approach. Max was quick to read the chord charts and play the correct notes.
