JPaul was absent. I used the class time to prepare materials for next week.

Discuss what determines the atomic number of an atom and the atomic mass. Introduce what an isotope is. Examine the isotope of uranium, U-235 and U-236. Analyze why 236 is not stable. Outline the fission reaction which spilts U-235 into a barium atom and a krypton atom, with the release of tremendous energy. Show how 3 neutrons are released for each U-225 split, causing a chain reaction.. Describe and examine an image of a nuclear reactor. Discuss the pros and cons of nuclear energy.

As JP continues to have concerns about how to craft the argumentative essay, I today reviewed the elements and techniques used in the argumentative essay. I additionally discussed the practice prompt and provided model sentences and a model thesis to use in an introduction. After we read through a number of AP argumentative essay prompts, JP chose a topic he felt he could address, and I again provided suggestions, models, and ideas to incorporate in the introduction and the body of the essay. For homework- draft the argumentative essay from the chosen prompt per class discussion.
