Jpaul and I reviewed his last homework assignment together. He got them all right! Next we moved onto a 3rd way of solving quadratic equations, using a method called completing the square. This is a concept I introduced to him in Algebra 2 over the summer, however he only got exposed to basic problems. Today we worked with odd numbers and fractions, which make this process more difficult. We used the "I do, We do, You do" method of learning. JPaul seemed to understand the process, but he will need more practice with it again tomorrow.
Outline is listed on last Thursday's summary. JP was absent for that lesson.

JP was absent again for this lesson. I need to move on, he will need to complete the module on his own, and I will be more than happy to discuss any facts he could not understand
As JP had difficulty on the Unit 5 test, we today reviewed his exam. I first addressed how to improve the essay by commenting on how the evidence supported the thesis. I explained in the absence of any commentary his evidence was not relevant as on its face the evidence did not support the argument.I further addressed how to particularize his thesis . Further, we addressed the subject-verb agreement problems . Next, we studied all of the multiple choice questions. I provided instruction on dissecting the nuance between the multiple choice responses , as well as strategies for determining how to answer questions on the proper use of transitional words and paragraph organization. After I explained the logic of the correct responses ,JP felt better prepared to tackle these difficult AP questions,
Today's lesson was a review for JPaul, but it was good to see concepts he hasn't seen in a while. Today we reviewed the various techniques for solving quadratic equations. We first practiced solving by factoring. We reviewed the techniques for trinomials, greatest common factor, and difference of squares. Then we solved by using the square root method. I showed JPaul when we can and cannot use those two methods. JPaul did a great job recalling the square root properties.
Discuss factors which cause the total fertility rate to be higher in developing countries. Examine life expectancy numbers and discuss factors affecting it. Introduce infant and child mortality and how it affects the crude population growth. Elicit factors which influence lowering of infant mortality rates.
