Unit 5- Evidence/Transitions/ Synthesis essay/Line of ReasoningMethods of Argument Development / Thesis
Lesson Outline
I provided instruction on how to use examples from fiction to support the claim in an argumentative essay. In this regard, we studied an essay of Joan Didion wherein she references characters from the novels Crime and Punishment and The Great Gatsby in order to exemplify her definition of "self respect." We noted how she integrates both quotes from the novels as well as specific examples of characters' actions to support her claim. In order to give JP some possible fictional sources to reference in his work, I I have assigned Henry James "Daisy Miller" as supplemental reading. During the second half of the session, I discussed the language and theme of the novel after which we watched a short video on James' life and on the themes of the novel.

Quiz
Lesson Outline
JPaul and I have not seen each other consistently lately, so we have not had a proper lesson/assessment schedule. I told JPaul we need to have a Quiz before we go on Winter Break, but I was reluctant to give it to him today since we had not reviewed. He said he felt ready. He suggested he take the Quiz today. And then we can review it and he can re-do the problems he misses. I agreed. So I highlighted important problems for him to try. He worked on them diligently. He got through 7 of them. The first 6 he did completely correct. The last one he struggled with. Tomorrow we will finish.
