We continued exploring Ch. 8 and learned different ways to calculate ROSI - Return on Social Investment. We also went over some practice questions from the text.
Today we finished 1.3 on Complex Fractions. We found the least common multiple and used it to clear the fractions within the fractions. JPaul seemed to pick up this concept quickly. He was able to show mastery and complete his assigned homework in class.
Introduce factors which affect the distribution of species, especially climate.
Discuss how different species possess distinct growth forms which allow them to adapt.
View photos of plants which look alike but have distinct anatomies and physiologies.
Define biomes, terrestrial biomes, habitat.
View from diagrams and discuss why latitude and altitude affect the biomes found in an area.
For introductory session to Unit 4, I first reviewed the previously studied lines of reasoning as well as examples of deductive and inductive reasoning . We specifically discussed how Amy Tan's essay employs inductive reasoning and a narrative line of reasoning. I then provided instruction on how to compose an interesting introduction to an essay using: a short anecdote, a startling statistic, a rhetorical question, or famous quote. JP then reviewed essays and identified the technique employed by the writer in the introduction . Last, we reviewed JP's homework on AP classroom and addressed multiple choice questions where he encountered difficulty.
We watched a clip from "Impractical Jokers" where the guys were tasked with pitching an unusual product. We then used a word generator to come up with three words that JPaul had to use when creating his own product pitch. The words were "bread", "loud", and "hear". JPaul came up with an innovative bread timer that connects to your smartphone. The timer is loud enough to hear and the bread timer goes off when the bread is perfectly baked. Nice job, JPaul!
We used today's class period to review. We practiced properties of exponents, factoring, and classifying polynomials. JPaul knows what to do, but will inconsistently make errors with the order of applying properties. He will need a bit more practice before we move on.
