Lesson 2: Energy Transfers and Transformations – We learned that biomass is organic material that comes from plants and animals, and it is a renewable source of energy. Then we learned that burning biomass releases stored chemical energy which can then be transformed into electric energy. Next we learned that most energy we use comes from fossil fuels and nuclear energy.
Then we played a board game where we answered questions on energy and energy transfers.
Assignment: Complete Energy Transfers and Transformations vocabulary and lesson content.

Lesson 2: Energy Transfers and Transformations – We learned that wind turbines are built in places where wind blows most of the time. A generator is turned by the turbine changing kinetic energy of wind to electric energy. Then we learned that in hydroelectric plants the mechanical energy of falling water being channeled through a turbine is transformed to electric energy. Next we learned that in a geothermal plant thermal energy from within Earth is transferred to water creating steam which is used to turn turbines in electric generators.
I. The student will learn the STEAL acronym for the 5 elements of Characterization.
II. The student will list the characters in Of Mice and Men on the board and apply the 5 elements of characterization to each.
