Libby and I watched a short video that presents the phrases Good Morning, Good Afternoon, and Good Night in a song. We then made some picture signs with handles together. We rewatched the video and each time the song would say one of our target phrases, she would hold up the sign with the picture depicting that phrase. Libby did a good job of choosing the correct sign for each phrase.
She did say at times that she would get confused between good morning and good night. That is to be expected on the first day of learning new material.
Libby completed her interactive calendar. She put together her daily puzzle sentence. She read, discussed, and colored her new vocabulary words for December. She labeled the body parts of an owl. She reviewed our new owl chart, as she learned important information about a horned owl. She watched an owl video.
This morning, Libby and I created a book on classifying, sorting, and counting to correlate with our recent lessons. Together, we drew and colored squirrels and acorns in two different scenarios. Then, Libby classified the acorns into two categories and counted the amount in each group.
Today's lesson completes the unit on classifying and sorting data. She applied our recent lessons on the way objects can be sorted, counted, and compared to critique the reasoning in given problems. Libby listened to statements about groups of data and stated whether the given answers made sense and justified why or why not. We finished with a game of Go Fish to reinforce number recognition.
Libby used paint brushes, magic change color markers, and writing paper to practice short u words and sight words (the, and, on, off, with, has). She did a practice page with short a words. I read a Christmas book to her and discussed it.
Libby completed her interactive calendar. She put together her daily sentence puzzle. She read her vocabulary words. She read, discussed, and answered questions pertaining to her Weekly Reader story, " Let's Go to a Powwow."
