Libby and I played Bingo with short vowel words that she practiced reading. She used a sand tray and writing paper to practice her short vowel words and sight words (on, the, and). We watched a video of Bruce Degen, illustrator of The Magic School Bus books. I read Jack Prelutsky poems to her.
Libby used paint brushes, writing paper, and rubber stamps to practice writing short vowel words and sight words (and, the, on). I read Jack Prelutsky poems to her. We watched a video about Joanna Cole, author of The Magic School Bus books.
Read "One Little, Two Little, Three Little Pilgrims." Talk about the foods we see in the story from the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag, comparing them to each other. Next talk about how their feast is different and the same from ours today. Complete Pilgrim sheet.
Watch video "Why do We Celebrate Thanksgiving?" and discuss what we learned. Make a list of things to be thankful for. Pick six that will be used for a turkey craft tomorrow.
This morning, Libby completed the Topic 4 assessment on comparing numbers 0 to 10. She answered questions on comparing two groups with objects and a 1-to-1 ratio, numerals, and by counting while recognizing that two numbers can be compared by finding the position of each number within the counting sequence. She also answered questions about comparison vocabulary such as greater than, less than, equal, or not equal.
Libby was introduced to the words querer (to want) and necesitar (to need) and dibujar. We discussed the difference between needs and wants. Libby drew pictures on a chart that divided items into wants and needs. We used the Spanish words for need and want liberally in questions and statements that used pictures for communication.
Libby used the thought of a Key and an Arrow when remembering how to say the word for I want.
Libby and I spent a brief amount of time connecting the word querer (to want) to other verbs like dibujar.
By the end of the class she was able to say I want to draw completely independently.
Libby took some time to match Spanish words with pictures in a fun game of memory! Libby remembered some of the vocabulary all on her own. Libby used the phrase my turn very appropriately during our game.
We then continued our discussion of need and want words.
Libby was given the opportunity to say Yo quiero jugar. (I want to play.) She would then get 3 chances to hit the ping pong ball as many times as she could to herself without letting it drop to the ground.
With a little practice, she got as high as 6 consecutive hits.
She did a great job at the start of this lesson, but later on in the lesson she started to jumble the word from today (Jugar) with the word from yesterday (dibujar).
