Libby completed her interactive calendar. She read and discussed all her vocabulary words. She began working on her STEM project, a battery- operated robot Gecko.
This morning, Libby worked on the Topic 4 assessment on comparing numbers 0 to 10. She answered questions on comparing two groups with objects and a 1-to-1 ratio, numerals, and by counting while recognizing that two numbers can be compared by finding the position of each number within the counting sequence. She also answered questions about comparison vocabulary such as greater than, less than, equal, or not equal. Libby has a few more questions that she will complete tomorrow.
Libby used magnetic letters to fill in letters on words by sounding the letters. She used Twistables and writing paper to practice sight words (the, on, and) and short vowel words. We reviewed the Magic School Bus books. I read some Jack Prelutsky poems.
Today's lesson focused on problem-solving and how to use something learned from one problem to solve another. Libby used repeated reasoning and counting skills to find shortcuts for finding one more than a given number of objects. Then, she worked on an activity to find one more student than what was shown on different school buses. Libby finished with a dot-to-dot picture with the numbers 1 through 75.
Talk about how we know certain holidays based on certain symbols. Show various symbols and tell what holiday it stands for. Talk about what holidays are coming up in November and December. Talk about what traditions are and how we will learn about traditions for holidays.
Today, Libby, Teddy and I spent the period playing chess.

Both of them seemed to like the game and they want to play it again.

Libby used the boogie board to spell short vowel words. She used writing paper to practice writing short vowel words and sight words (on, the, and). I used the rubber letters to spell words for her to read. I read a Magic School Bus book and Jack Prelutsky poems.
Libby continued to work on the concept of comparing numbers 0 to 10. She counted groups of objects and determined which objects were greater than or less than in number. Then, she worked on a more and less gumball coloring page. Libby counted gumballs and colored the machine that had more. Finally, we played a number comparison dice game. We each rolled a die and wrote our amounts in the given squares with the greater than, less than, or equal to sign.
