Libby used paintbrushes, rubber stamps, and writing paper to practice spelling sight words (on, the, and) and short vowel words. I read another Magic School Bus book and discussed the author and the illustrator.
Today, Libby continued to work on the Topic 3 assessment which focused on the skills necessary for accurate counting and the counting sequence of the numbers 6 to 10. Libby answered questions on number sequences and the one-to-one principle, visually picturing quantities relating to a 5 or 10 frame, cardinality of a group of objects, and counting on. She also used a hundreds chart to count to 50, focusing on visually looking at each number to help with recognition.
Discuss what a symbol is and how we can use them instead of words to follow directions. Talk about how we use road signs with symbols to know what to do in our cars. Use page 54-55 in workbook about the different street signs we see. Read pg 78-79 and do questions pg 79 together.
She watched two videos in Spanish about Day of the Dead.
I asked her questions about the videos. The questions dealt mostly with visual elements of the videos as she is not yet expected to understand the verbal components.
She was allowed to choose one of the images in the videos as a reference for her art work.
She then created a skeleton mask for Day of the Dead.
Libby used magnetic letters and twistables to practice short vowel words. We worked on sight words (and, the, on). On writing paper, Libby practiced the sight words and some short vowel words. I read a Magic School Bus book to her and discussed title, author, and illustrator.
Libby completed her interactive calendar. She read and discussed her vocabulary words. She watched a video about the voting process. She read and discussed her Scholastic News Magazine about voting.
Libby and I practiced yoga outside. We practiced butterfly, banana split see-saw and straight leg see-saw. We collected acorns and discussed how the recent storm blew down immature acorns that didn't have a chance to grow fully. We observed bees collecting nectar from flowers and pollinating flowers.
