This morning during our lesson, Libby participated in our monthly fire drill. Then, we began the Topic 2 review on comparing the numbers 0 to 5. We focused on understanding the vocabulary words greater than, less than, equal, compare, group, and model. Libby answered questions related to these words to show she understood their meanings and how they apply to the concept of comparing numbers.
Libby and I did balloon breathing, butterflies and straddle as a warm-up. We did the following yoga poses: reverse warrior, headstand, plank, flamingo, and banana split.
Recall what a citizen is and read the story of the Lion and the Mouse in the Inquiry Journal pg 24-25. Follow the directions on pg 25. Talk about what are rights and responsibilities: that rights are what we are free to do (breathe, drink, eat, etc) while responsibilities are what we should do (pick up litter, help others, etc). Make a Good Citizen at School poster.
Review what rules and laws are. Talk about what a citizen is and how to be a good one. Act out being a good and bad citizen to show understanding. Have Libby then do her own acts to show she knows the concept.
Basic piano, and discussion/activity about percussion instruments.
Lesson Outline
We played the piano a little and learned about middle C, and the 7 letters of the musical alphabet. We did a coloring sheet of a xylophone, and learned about percussion instruments. We watched some videos of people playing various songs on xylophones, marimbas, glockenspiels, and vibraphones. We discussed the differences and similarities, and talked about how they belong to the same family of percussion instruments as the drums. We did an activity completing note patterns and discussed quarter notes and eighth notes.
Libby worked on painting her mini clay donut. She worked on painting the frosting, sprinkles and donut dough. She then did a second coat and added glaze.
