Today Stephen began learning about the 3 branches of government. We began by watching a short Brainpop video on the branches of government. Stephen answered all 5 of the review questions correctly on what he had just watched. Then Stephen began working on his branches of government book. Stephen completed the pages on the 3 branches of the federal government in his book. Next class we will learn about the 3 branches of the state government and who makes up each branch.
Communities: Marina drew a community with stores, police station, fire department, houses, hotels, parks, hospital and related items in a community in her last lesson today she is coloring her drawing for display in her classroom. Great job Marina

Drawing a Community: Marina laid out streets and named them, then she located buildings that are in a community, Fire Department, Hospital, homes, hotels, and parks, etc. She identified each building and location as she placed them in her sketch. Good job Marina
Bobby and I read a chapter in Florida Curiosities and we talked about the arrival of the Florida Crackers settlers. We discussed: the life for the Crackers, transportation then and now, the pros and cons of the old Flagler and the modern railroad, and economics regarding railroad building. We then transitioned to the Florida Territorial Years and we discussed the following: artifacts, Native Americans, Spanish, the Battle of New Orleans, the War of 1812, General Andrew Jackson, and the Treaty of Ghent. During our session Bobby practiced analyzing primary sources including several famous paintings, the U.S. Declaration of War and the Treaty of Ghent.
Today Stephen and I discussed the importance of rules and laws in a community. We began by drawing and describing a picture of what school would look like if there were no rules. Then we discussed the importance of rules. We discussed private action and public actions laws. We discussed laws in rules in our local government and their importance. Great work today Peanut!
Statue of Liberty: Ethan view the Statue of Liberty and was introduced to the different parts of the statue and what they symbolize. He did a great job listening and following instructions. Good job Ethan
Bobby explored the followign topics in Social Studies today: Pirates in Florida, famous Florida shipwrecks, the "Treasure Coast" and "Gold Coast", modern treasure hunters and their equipment and protocols, scuba diving (age of certification, how it works), GPS tracking systems on boats, lattitude and longitude, coordinates, privateers during the Revolutionary War, and the armadillo (study of Florida wildlife). Bobby read and listened to short stories, read primary sources, and watched videos as we talked about each topic. He also completed several short series of comprehension questions.
