What makes up Communities: Ethan did a good job understanding what makes up communities. He followed directions, paid attention, and was able to name parts of a community. Great job Ethan.
Today Stephen and I continued working on his communities unit. Today we read and discussed school communities. We talked about the different people that make up a school community and the roles and responsibilities each of these people have. Stephen added this information to his communities book. We finished class by watching a short Brainpop video on school communities.
Today Gwendolyn and I began chapter 3. This chapter focuses on citizenship, and what makes a good citizen. Today we began by writing our vocabulary words for lesson one. We finished week 14 on her estudies program, entitled Good Citizenship. Gwendolyn and I finished class by reading and discussing lesson 1 in her textbook.
US History: Ethan wanted to know about World War II. We viewed the video from BrainPop explaining how the US got into the war and who was our allies and the enemy. His inquiry led to the Bombing of Pearl Harbor, which was discussed and viewed. Great job Ethan
Bobby continued his study of several aspects of Florida (and U.S.) history including: the French and Indian War, Major George Washington and his role in the French and Indian War, Florida under British rule, and the life and roles of James Oglethorpe. During his readings and activities, Bobby also learned about Escambia County including the natural areas and aviation industries. We also discussed the yellow fever epidemic (including the roles of vaccinations and the geography of illnesses across the globe). Bobby utilized several kinds of historical and modern maps, and read primary sources to enrich his understanding of historical events.
Today Gwendolyn and I began by discussing the difference between primary and secondary sources. Gwendolyn then completed a source sort. She was given an example of how someone received the information and she had to determine if it was a primary or secondary source. Then we read lesson 2. This lesson focused on the rights and responsibilities of citizens. Gwendolyn then watched a short video on rights and responsibilities and was able to answer 80% of the quiz questions correctly. Great work today Gwendolyn!
