Lesson Comments
Since this was my last session with Will, I told him he was a good student who asked incisive questions. I also told him that he can stop me in the hallway any time to ask me questions about his school work. Will is very cooperative and tries hard, and I'll miss him as a student.
Today Gwendolyn and I began class by reading lesson 3-2 in her textbook. We spoke about the difference between private and public property. We then went through the lesson 3-3 vocabulary. Gwendolyn and I spoke about the different types of laws and why laws are important. We spoke about how Jury Duty is both a privilege and a responsibility. We will finish these sections on Friday and review for her test Tuesday!
Today Stephen and I began class by completing his recycling book. Stephen put a lot of work into his book and should be proud of his work. Stephen then watched a short Brainpop video on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and took a short quiz on what he watched. We finished class with a short MLK activity.
Today Gwednolyn began class by taking her chapter 3 lesson 1 and 2 quiz. She answered all 10 questions correctly! Gwendolyn and I then watched a short Brainpop video on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We then used the information for the video to complete a timeline on his life. We finished class by using the Timeline to answer questions about Martin Luther King. Gwendolyn really seemed to enjoy today's lesson.
Famous Citizens: Marina was introduced to Jackie Roberson, Helen Keller, Sister Teresa, Sojourner Truth, Clara Barton, Cesar Chavez, famous people that changed the lives of people that needed care or were treated differently. She wrote about them and responded well to their contributions.
Bobby completed a KWL chart to identify what he knows, wants to learn, and at the end of the session, listed the new things that he learned. Using real media clips and images, and the Brain Pop episode on Civil Rights, we discussed at length the issues surrounding the Civil Rights Movement and the causes and effects of the Civil Rights movement. We discussed sit ins, nonviolent protests, the Supreme Court's role, among other issues. He completed a quiz, and we discussed much new vocabulary during our session including boycott, overturn, integration, etc.
