It was so nice having Gwendolyn back at school. Today we began by talking about map skills. Gwendolyn and I talked about cardinal directions verse intermediate directions. We also discussed the elements that every map has. We read and answered questions on today's Estudies lessons. Today's lessons showed the importance of maps even back in the 1700s.
Bobby learned about several facets of the state of Florida today including: state symbols, brief history overview, animals and native plants, natural landforms and state parks, geography and weather. We also began a study of the counties. Today we reviewed Alachua, Marion, and Putnam counties. Bobby completed several online comprehension questions to review and learn more.
Bobby and I created a huge graphic organizer web to brainstorm his knowledge, prior Social Studies topics, and his interests. We then discussed economics, based on his interests in shopping for shoes. We calculated his earnings in a potential job working at a cupcake store, for day/week/month/year. Then we discussed taxes (income and sales) and how taxes help us to run the country (infrastructure, etc).
The Continents and Oceans of the World: Ethan did a great job today drawing the Continents, naming them and the Oceans of the World. I am very proud of you Ethan.
