Today Stephen and I continued working on his landform unit. Today we read about the different water landforms in section 2. Stephen added these landforms, their definitions and a picture of each to his flip book.
Today Gwendolyn continued learning about the Earth. Lesson 1 focused on "where on Earth is you community". We discussed different land and water forms that a community can be located near. We also discussed the differences between a globe and a map and why we use each of them. Gwendolyn took notes on the important terms in the reading. Gwendolyn will have a short quiz on this material on Friday.

I am encouraging Will to ask a lot of questions regarding his textbook readings, as this part of the text is more difficult, I believe, than the parts about the Amendments.
We had a long discussion on Congressional districts, as well as reviewed a map showing how many delegates are in each state, and how many were gained and lost due to the 2010 census.

Will is showing more animation and interest in his discussion. It will take more work to make the electoral process more clear for Will, but I believe he will soon understand the legislative branch of the U.S. Congress.
Symbols of the United States: Ethan read and viewed different symbols of the United States including our early flag, bald eagle, Capital Building, monuments, etc. We discussed them and he took a test on them from the computer. He did very well.
I started this lesson with a little quiz. I gave Bobby a blank sheet of paper and asked him to write down as many of the fifty states as he can remember without using a map or globe. He came up with 23 of them. Then we looked in his textbook at a list of all of the states to see which ones he missed. Bobby enjoyed this activity. Next, Bobby and I read through chapter 3 sections 1-3 of his textbook. He learned about the different levels of elevation and we used his globe to feel which parts of the United States have mountains and hills, and which parts are flat. Then we learned about Florida and the effects of hurricane Andrew in 1992.
