Teddy worked on addition and subtraction word problems within 20. We used a part-part whole model on the whiteboard to help model problems and know the operation needed to find the answers. I read the story problems, and Teddy filled in the model with the given information and determined if the whole or a part was missing. Then, Teddy matched his work to the bar model given with each problem and used addition or subtraction to find the answers.
Teddy and I read the story "The Two Goats and the Bridge" and we discussed how to solve problems with one another. We talked about the three steps to solve problems: talk, share and listen. He watched a video on cooperation and teamwork. We discussed it.
Teddy completed his interactive calendar, read and discussed his vocabulary words, put together his daily sentence puzzle, finished his calendar talk activities, and assembled his STEM project.
Teddy answered the remaining questions from the Grade 1 Readiness test, with today's questions focused on geometry. He recognized shapes as solid or flat, named the appropriate measurement tools, and compared objects by length. Teddy did very well with this readiness assessment, earning 96%. He finished with subtracting 1 through 3 and adding 1 through 9 fast fact checks.
