We continued our study of figurative language (similes and metaphors), and Jack was effectively to identify examples from Louis Sachar's book. We read another chapter in the book and Jack acted out some parts.
Today he continued working on his Rockalingua activity about farm animals. He completed the online activity for Clan 7, he did a good job today learning five new words in Spanish.
We created sea creatures using magic gel. After placing the colorful gel in molds, we placed the molds in a calcium/water solution. This allowed the gel to harden to create little sea creatures.
This morning, we continued our study of American heroes. We read about Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin who worked together to write the Declaration of Independence, and learned the reason this document was written. We also learned about the contributions of Benjamin Franklin who helped organize the newly formed nation's government. It was surprising to learn that Congress refused Benjamin Franklin's request to end slavery and that it wasn't for another 70+ years that another American hero, Abe Lincoln, brought about an end to slavery in the United States. We ended our session learning that the name of the document that freed our country's enslaved people was the Emancipation Proclamation. Jack stated that oms and dads are our everyday heroes, which was a beautiful and heartfelt sentiment to share.
We worked on hand coordination, and hand/foot coordination. We worked on playing eighth notes and quarter notes simultaneously between the right and left hands. We talked about counting in 4/4 time, and trying to keep a steady beat.
Jack will work on the Topic 12: Understanding Fractions as Numbers Assessment.

Lesson Comments
This session went ok! Jack was distracted and engaged with playing a game of War with playing cards. He worked on 3 problems on his test. He would not willingly work on or complete the test, so I will not give him a signature for completed work.
