Luke was given his letter form project. We placed glue on the background of the second section of his project. Luke selected three different shades of colored beads. Luke was able to place 80% of the beads needed for the background.
Because of the nature of the first session, I took Luke outside for a break to search for spiral shells. When we went back inside, he was much calmer but still refused to listen to the read aloud or dictate a story for his journal.

Lesson Comments
Luke came in refusing to do any work. I gave him several choices, but he refused and started defacing the wall map and throwing markers and paper. I asked Jordy to come in, and although he complied with Dr. Jordy's requests, he continued to refuse to do work.
Luke completed his interactive calendar. He read and discussed his vocabulary words and his sight words. He made a Catapult for his STEM project using rubber bands, craft sticks, and a plastic spoon. He learned how to turn energy into motion.
Luke finished working on the reading passage he began yesterday. He listened attentively but exhibited some intentionally oppositional answers when it came time to answer the questions. Luke clearly intentionally answered the first 4 multiple-choice questions incorrectly. He KNEW the answers but giggled as he circled the wrong answers in blue crayon and gave himself an A+ on the paper. When explained how his decision to answer incorrectly would reflect poorly when reviewing his performance in school, he was permitted to answer again, this time correctly. And as predicted, this time, his answers were all correct. He also answered all the open-ended questions correctly after the importance of demonstrating his true competence was emphasized, and when the consequences of pretending that he does not know answers was explained. Luke was hesitant to write down his answers but when prompted, he wrote some down. He did very well on the reading exercise about maps and got 8 out of 8 of the multiple-choice and open-ended questions correct. We finished our session reading for enjoyment, and Luke participated in a guided reading exercise, and demonstrated good comprehension by responding to queries about content correctly.
