Session Date
Lesson Topic
To assess Josh's decoding and reading comprehension skills
Lesson Outline
Josh brought his You-gi-oh cards and explained the game to me. Then using the "Critical Reading Inventory" I first asked him to read sight words. He was able to successfully read 85% of the fourth grade words. I asked him to read some of the fifth grade list and was able to see where he had difficulty with decoding. Then he read several passages on the third and fourth grade levels, retold them and answered test-based, inference and critical response questions. We then continued reading and discussing "Trapped in Death Cave."

Lesson Comments
Josh and I discussed that reading the words and passages I asked him would help me better understand the things that we needed to work on. I had checked with Sheryl about it the previous week. After the session, we spoke a little, but she had to go. Josh has a great memory and was able to retell the fictional passages very well. He shows strength remembering facts and details. He has difficulty making inferences. I can be more specific and would like to share more information.
