Today, Alexandra and I talked about the difference between flat and solid shapes. We reviewed the names and counted the sides of the square, rectangle, triangle, pentagon, and circle. Then, we focused on the solid shape sphere and its difference from a circle, and Alexandra circled spheres amongst groups of shapes. Next, we worked on subtraction within 10 word problems using pictures and counted to 100 using the hundreds chart.
This morning, we used a stack of dinosaur cards to work on classifying, sorting, and counting. First, Alexandra counted all the cards and the number of cards of each dinosaur type. Then, she grouped the cards into size, color, type, and whether she thought the dinosaurs were nice or mean. Finally, she created patterns by color or dinosaur type.
Alexandra completed her interactive calendar, read her sight words, worked on her
handwriting activity, put together her daily sentence puzzle, recognized and wrote high-frequency words and read a take home book, finished her calendar talk activity, used her problem-solving skills to assemble a giant floor puzzle, and had Storytime.
Alexandra participated in a guided reading exercise about her favorite subjects - dinosaurs. She was engaged in a hands-on activity which strengthened her fine motor, bi-manual skills and fine-finger dexterity as she applied glitter gems onto dinosaur sticker pictures. Alexandra worked industriously and identified all the dinosaurs correctly. She also worked on assembling a 36 piece dinosaur floor puzzle and demonstrated a good strategy for figuring out how to configure the pieces.
