As a substitute for Remington's Drama class today, I created a lesson plan skit which involved a caveman painting and hunting who needs protection from Dinosurs and dangerous reptiles. Remington mimicked the movements of a Komodo dragon in the caveman skit and then drew a picture of a Gila Monster in the Art class which followed.
Remington glued his bird’s eggs onto his bird’s nest. He added a "cherry" pom pom to his cupcake and insisted that his cherry had a stem. We glued a green cut piper cleaner on top of the "cherry." Then Remington drew two rhinos on beige paper with oil pastels and smudged the pastels to look like they were very old and drawn on cave walls. Lastly, he drew a Gila monster and carefully added the texture of the scales to the Gila monster's body. He was very focused and did great work today!
Remington and I reviewed what makes a tornado. We found two books related to our lab. We consulted them as needed during the lab.
First, we gathered up the ingredients: canning jar, water, clear liquid soap, and vinegar. Then, we followed the directions. We started by filling up the canning jar with water 2/3 of the way to the top. Next, we measured out one teaspoon of the clear liquid soap and the vinegar. Once combined, we shut the lid and shook it really good. We held the canning jar at the top and swirled it around. Abracadabra, we had a tornado in a jar!
Remington wanted to add things to the jar to represent debris and the like. He found a car from the Monopoly game and put that in the jar. It sunk to the bottom. We discussed why it sunk. Remington knew it sunk because it was made of metal. Then, he put a plastic house in the jar. He noticed that it floated. We discussed why it floated. Remington was able to deduce that it floated because it was made of plastic. Our Tornado in a Jar Science Lab was a success.

Examples of how to help were given before Remington thought of his own ways to be helpful by working together.
Remington had a very productive day today. He completed 25 timed basic addition facts on adding 1 and he worked on neatly tracing and properly writing the numbers 1 through 20. Our lesson looked at how to use patterns with groups of 10 and single items to help problem solve with real world examples. Lesson Comments
Remington worked very hard today. Great work Remington! :)
This morning, we continued to work on representing numbers in different ways. Remington used base ten blocks to show 2-digit numbers as tens and ones with amounts more than 10. Then, he exchanged groups of 10 ones for tens sticks and wrote the 2-digit numbers in expanded form. Finally, Remington was given a 5-minute timed basic facts page on adding one. He verbally gave the answers but was resistant to writing the answers and did not complete the assignment.
The teacher introduced herself, and the student did the same. With the teacher’s support, the student completed a “Todo sobre mí” activity. The teacher then reviewed basic vocabulary related to colors and numbers. Using concrete materials, the student successfully identified the colors, and demonstrated understanding of numbers in Spanish by circling the correct number when prompted by the teacher.
Bird's Eggs, Cupcakes, and Prehistoric Cave Drawings
Lesson Outline
We started class by having Remington paint his bird’s eggs from last class to complete his bird’s nest activity. He also painted his cupcake made from air-dry clay. He handles the paint brush very well using controlled strokes and carefully applying the paint.
In collaboration with Professor Mark, Remington has been working on a play about prehistoric humans/cavemen. We are connecting this learning with some Paleolithic/prehistoric cave drawings. We used crumpled brown construction paper and charcoal and pastel sticks to recreate the cave paintings and drawings at the famous sites in Europe. Remington did an amazing job looking at the figures, animals, and symbols and recreating them.
I am very proud of his work and his positive attitude towards learning! Super job, Remington!
