Ben was clearly disappointed that Marcus was not at school for his regularly scheduled time. I explained to Ben that he would still have the same amount of time with Marcus, just a half hour later. Ben refused to do anything. After saying he would not do what I had planned, I gave him other options. He said no to each one. I asked him what he would like to do and he said nothing. When I told him I would have to write that he refused to do anything, he replied, "Please do.".
After creating a structure using different colored cubes, Richard was tasked with using his words to tell me how to make the same structure. (I did not look at the structure). I then made a structure and told Richard how to replicate it. We talked about the need for precise language to communicate effectively. Richard enjoyed telling me how to get to the playground using precise language.
Sofia and I looked at innovative interior design ideas in which no reconstruction took place. These projects involved working with the space you have and a limited budget for improvements.
Kellan enjoyed participating in school wide spring activities. Toward the end of the hour, Kellan worked on fact vs. opinion activities. Given a sentence, he determined if they were facts or opinions. We played a game where Kellan took two steps if a statement was a fact and one step if the statement was an opinion.
The concept of probability was discussed.Expressing probability as fractions and percentages was reviewed. Dutch hypothesized that if he flipped a coin 20 times, it would land on heads 13 times and tails 7 times. After flipping the coin, Dutch saw that his results matched his prediction. Given pictues of socks in drawers, Dutch was tasked with determining if certain socks or combinations of socks were certain, likely, unlikely or impossible to be in the given drawer. He was then asked to draw socks in drawers based on probability specifications.
