Lesson Comments
Joshua scored 94% on today's test. This is excellent! BUT...although all of his M/C answers were correct, his essay disappointing and he earned 10 out of 16 points on it. There are comments throughout so Joshua may understand what was missing or unclear. Considering Joshua had two days to work on this essay at home, it could have and should have been a stronger response. At this point in our course, Joshua should know that he must incorporate more historical examples and less general statements in his essays. He also knows that the highest AP points are earned and standards met by writing complex arguments in his written responses - especially long essay questions (LEQ) and date based questions (DBQ). When we review these skills in class, Joshua says he understands the examples and expectations and yet this essay did not reflect the skills about argumentation we have been working on for quite some time in this course. There needs to be more consistency with Joshua's writing and his penmanship, too as an AP reader/grader may have difficulty reading some of Joshua's writing. I strongly suggest that Joshua applies for extended time with the College Board for his AP World History: Modern AP exam. It's a long exam, 3.25 hours, but 2/3 of it is writing and Joshua may benefit from having some additional time.
For this additional period of history today, we reviewed for the Chap. 10 Test tomorrow. We also focused on the AP skill of writing complex argumentation that will mostly be found in the LEQ and DBQ on the AP exam.
We examined the development of export economies. We will looked at the point of view, purpose, historical situation, and/or audience of a source. We then examined economic imperialism in the period from 1750 to 1900. We will explain how a historical development is situated within a broader historical context. We looked at the causes of migration in the late 19th century and focused on the skill of making connections among historical developments or processes. We concluded with a review of imperialism. We will work on the skills of argumentation, corroboration, qualification, and modification of an argument.
Challenges to Imperial Authority, growing nationalism, the creation of new states. Political and religion inspired rebellions against imperialism. We focused on the AP skill of sourcing and situation and analyzed some FRQs from previous AP exams.
Joshua worked on completing his chapter 10 essay assignment for AP Modern World History: How did people in certain parts of Africa respond to the Second Age of Imperialism? How did people in India begin to respond to the Second Age of Imperialism? How did people in certain areas of Asia begin to respond to the Second Age of Imperialism?

Lesson Comments
Joshua seemed very tired and perhaps a bit under the weather today.
Joshua didn't do very well on the Unit 5 Progress Check he completed for HW recently. He got 20 out of 27 M/C questions correct (that's 74%). His written response question score was 1/5. It was missing solid contextualization, evidence to support an argument. Overall, Joshua's analysis and reasoning should be stronger on these AP written responses. We will review this more in depth in class tomorrow. Also, Joshua knows he may access my comments in his AP Central classroom and I recommended he take a look at them last night, prior to our class today. We began to explore the new unit on Imperialism from 1750-1950 today. We explored the terms Social Darwinism, Eugenics and the racism used as a rationale for the colonization of lands in Asia, Africa and Oceania for imperialist actions. We reviewed this topic and practiced the AP skill on contextualization through AP Central in class today.
