First, I reviewed Sasha's school folder. She did not have a new spelling list. There was a letter indicating that the FAST testing is scheduled for 4/17. I thought it would be helpful for Sasha to be familiar with the test. I found sample tests online and together we completed 29 questions. Many of the questions focus on reading comprehension using academic vocabulary (main idea, main character, setting, antonym, synonym, etc.) Other topics include identifying sentences with correct punctuation and capitalization. We will continue to review for the FAST next session.
Joshua and I met on Teams today. We completed the lesson we started yesterday on solving Trig Equations and Inequalities. We worked by using techniques to solve for the given angle measures. Then we considered where on the unit circle would give us an equivalent trig value and we listed those. Then we used our graphing calculator to help us solve the intersection of two trig functions.
Today PJ and I prepared for a Quiz he is going to have tomorrow. We worked in his textbook with the review problems in the back of the chapter. PJ and I reviewed how to verify if a constant is a solution to the equation (without actually solving it). Then we discussed the properties of equality and determined if they applied in the given scenario. Lastly, we discussed how to use inverse relationships to solve for the given variable. PJ did an excellent job. We had extra time so we introduced the concept of greater than, less than (and equal to). PJ already had a good understanding, so we were able to build on it today. I asked him what the symbol would look like if you wanted to make AT LEAST $40. He knew to write x is greater than or equal to 40. I said, what if the temperature for the day is AT MOST 90 degrees. He was able to write t is less than or equal to 90.
Today Matthew and I worked on preparing for a quiz he will have tomorrow. He practiced converting degrees into radians (and vice versa), finding coterminal angles, converting to degrees/minutes/seconds, and finding arc length. Matthew did a great job and I think he will be ready for his quiz tomorrow.
Aiden and I continued in 5.4 working with inequalities. Aiden did a great job. We first started simply with just solving the inequalities using inverse operations (no application). Then we moved to the word problems where Aiden had to set up the inequality first. Aiden is great at interpreting the word problems. We also saw problems that included fractions and decimals. Aiden used the techniques he's recently learned to clear them. At the end, we discussed a higher order thinking question that gave us the solution and had us consider the possible scenarios working backwards.
Today Ben and I prepared for a Quiz that he will have tomorrow. We discussed how to go from radicals to exponent form. Ben used the acronym BOTI (he changed it to BOTN) to rewrite the expressions. Ben did a great job today. He only had difficulty with one problem involving a negative exponent. With a reminder, he was able to rewrite it.
Today Andrew and I prepared for a Quiz he will be taking tomorrow. We focused on 8.2 Trigonometric Ratios. Andrew practiced using opposite, adjacent, and hypotenuse to set up trig ratios depending on the given angle. Then he used inverse functions to solve to find the missing angle measure. He will have an open note/book quiz tomorrow.
Today Carson had a Test on 3D figures. This is the last formal test he will have this year since he has finished the 8th grade curriculum ahead of schedule. He worked in his online Savvas account to complete the test. He worked diligently the entire period but did not finish the test. We saved the test and he will resume next class.
