Orton -Gillingham
Lesson Outline
Inside the notebook I prepared, he will find the school list of approved books and sections for his reading log, book reports, and extra paper. When he arrived I conducted an abbreviated OG session. With time remaining, we read his summer reading book and entered the time in the reading log session of his notebook.

We went outside for alphabetic awareness, tossing a ball while sequencing the alphabet. Returning inside, Cade syllabicated two-syllable "tiger" words with open, closed, and R-controlled syllables. We went to the school library and found three books on Cade's school summer reading list. He chose "The World According to Humphrey." We read one chapter, pausing to practice reading comprehension strategies such as summarizing and making predictions.

Lesson Outline
After alphabetic awareness, I conducted visual, auditory, and blending drills with all letters, digraphs, and /er/, /ir/, and/ur/ words. I noticed during the blending drill that Cade was mis-reading many silent-E words. I re-taught the concept; Cade then read a list of example words and wrote words that I dictated. I reviewed FLSZ words and was pleased he had retained that knowledge. I dictated sentences to edit: Can you save the lame dog? It is safe to go home. Next, he syllabicated or and ar words and matched detached syllables. I taught a new concept, the vowel team ee. To conclude, Cade read a decodable text, "Meg and Jim's Sled Day."

Geometry Overview
Lesson Outline
Today Aiden and I reviewed the Geometry content in this chapter. We began with scale factor and drawing geometric figures. Aiden was asked questions regarding a drawing and asked to determine the dimensions given a scale factor. Aiden was also asked questions that required him to use the protractor and ruler to create figures (such as a parallelogram with a 45 degree angle).

SAT Circles
Lesson Outline
Today we continued working with how the SAT covers circles. Last class I introduced to Andrew the equation of a circle. Today we practiced this concept further. I gave Andrew the equation of a circle and I asked Andrew to graph it. Andrew had to recall how to find the coordinates of the center of the circle. Then he had to take the square root of the number he saw to find the square root. Next I gave Andrew the graph of a circle and asked him to write the equation.

Piano
Lesson Outline
Today Matthew showed me the skill set he's developed in music class. He loved playing Mario and also performed several other songs. He did a great job! Halfway through class, the preschoolers came into the cafeteria and invited us to join in for a game of Headbandz. Matthew needed to be redirected a few times (when middle schoolers came in for water, he used the headband like a switch and repeatedly hit a student with it, ignoring my instructions to stop, he used the headband to lift up the bench while another student was sitting on it and broke the headband game piece).
