We learned that finding a percent of a whole is like finding a fractional part of a whole. Then we learned to find the percent of a number by changing the percent to a decimal and multiplying or using a proportion.

I substituted for Bobby's teacher from 9 to 9:30 this morning while I was teaching Charlie math.
Today Bobby continued to work on the 3-D puzzle. Solving it presented some problems which presented opportunities to discuss the situation. It was planned to work on reading sample essays to discuss the pros and cons of the writing styles. The essay reading/critique will commence at the next session. Bobby is a good worker and very polite.
Bobby will be given a string art template that will be applied to a .5" thick board. Bobby will hammer in 80 nails at designated points on the template. The goal of this project is to create a specific design based on a movement pattern.
Bobby will review the About page that he created for the website. He will make sure that all of the students page logos are displayed and linked to their correct webpages. If the pages are not linked and/or the home pages are not created he will create them and link them. Bobby will finalize the page by adding the footer.

This morning Bobby and I continued to reinforce our math skills with converting percentages into fractions. We are practicing on problems that contain a narrative to create more of a "real world" application of percentages such as how to calculate the discount on a pair of sneakers or which quantity of Oreos is larger than the original sample.
This afternoon we continued to work on our presentation by comparing terrestrial vs arboreal species. We were able to complete most of the research for this particular part of the keynote.
This morning we compared two of the strongest city states in ancient Greece- Sparta and Athens. We compared how they are different and what things that had in common. One relied upon military training while the other favored education and the arts. Homework is to read pages 292-297 and to answer the questions at the end of the section.
Bobby finished writing the first draft of his expository essay on what makes him unique, he typed it up, and we edited it together. He then read another short story by Roald Dahl, titled "Skin." He then did a compare/contrast exercise comparing "Royal Jelly" and "Skin," including elements like characters, setting, tone, and literary devices that contributed to mood and tone.
Assignment
Think about a controversial topic that he would like to learn more about for a project during the next nine weeks.
