Bobby warmed up and stretched. Afterwards, he did underhand cable extensions, TRX bicep curls, up/down planks, DB skull crushers, hammer curls (rope), stability ball crunches, diamond push ups, 21s, figure 8s, a cool down and a stretch.
This morning we discussed the role of genetics and heredity in explaining how physical and genetic traits are passed onto the offspring of an organism. We discussed dominance and recessive genes and used a few examples to illustrate how a Punnett Square works to help estimate the genotype of future offspring. Homework is to read pages 149-156 and #'s 1-7
This afternoon we used part of this class to complete the math assessment. We spent the remainder of class discussing the role of the Egyptians in sculpting the Kush culture/society. Homework: none
Bobby identified prepositional phrases in sentences. He determined the preposition and the object of the preposition. He continued to read "Holes." While reading he took information from the text and tied it together. He summarized the most important details. Bobby should practice spelling words at home.
This morning Bobby and I focused on correcting his responses to the chapter four questions and discussed his overall demeanor during the assessment. Homework is to read chapter five section one and to prepare the questions at the end of the first section. Homework: Complete #'s 1-17 on page 220. Bobby scored a 76% on his math test.
This morning Bobby took the chapter four test. We had spent at least a full week preparing for this assessment. It was obvious from the beginning of the assessment that Bobby was experiencing a great deal of anxiety despite the fact that the assessment featured questions taken directly from the homework. In fact, the questions were copied verbatim. We will review the results of this assessment during class on Wednesday.

As noted above, Bobby was anxious about taking this assessment and admitted that he had forgotten how to complete many of the problems featured in the first portion of the test. He had difficulty staying focused and talked throughout the assessment often stating that he did not know the material and needed help on how to begin. Thankfully, he seemed to regain some confidence when he began solving the problems on scientific notation. However, some of the simpler problems such as reducing fractions and identifying common factors were difficult for Bobby. This is a concern given the fact that we have spent considerable time on solving this type of problem and Bobby seemed to have a good understanding of the subject matter.
Bobby reviewed parts of speech (noun, verb, verbs of being, adjective, adverb.) We used the book "Holes" and practiced identifying parts of speech. We discussed punctuation and focused on the use of the apostrophe and commas in the story. We continued to read "Holes."
Bobby warmed up and did squats, glute bridges (bench), box jumps, single leg curls, leg extensions, DB calf raises, ankle leg lifts, abs knees to elbows, and cool down and stretch.
Bobby read 3 chapters in "Holes." While reading, he paused to take time to reflect on what he had read to tell how the written material related to him. He made connections to personal experiences as well as the world. Bobby wrote an essay on a character from the book. He included a topic sentence and supporting details. He edited and printed a copy. Bobby reviewed direct objects and was introduced to prepositions and prepositional phrases. Bobby should practice spelling words at home.
