Anubis death mask cont;d
Lesson Outline
This afternoon we broke ground on the development of our Anubis death mask. We measured and cut out the templates for the ears, assembled the contractor's hat which will be the basis for our mask and we discussed how we will proceed once the ears are finished. Track our progress on www.rttscience.com. This is an example of project based learning whereby our hands on project complements our study of Egyptian culture, polytheism and beliefs in the afterlife.

the rosetta stone
Lesson Outline
This afternoon we studied the impact that the discovery of the Rosetta Stone had on our understanding of ancient Egypt. We spent the remainder of class beginning the design for our mask of Anubis and identifying materials that would be needed for this hands on project. I will be purchasing some of the materials this weekend and we have opened a web page at rttscience.com which is documenting our efforts.

Lesson Comments
Bobby was having some difficulty staying focused (and awake) at this point in the afternoon. He had been to the dentist earlier in the day who had given him nitrous oxide (NOS) for an anesthetic which clearly was having an effect on Bobby. Bobby did the best he could under the circumstances.

Lesson Topic
reintroducing predators into the ecosystem
Lesson Outline
This afternoon Bobby and I reviewed a case study that took place in Yellowstone National Part. Native wolf populations had been removed or culled from the area which had a tangible impact on the topography of the region and the population density of a number of species. Reintroducing the wolf as a predator actually restored the natural balance to the national part by virtue of a reemergence of various organisms.

We are still missing the Pine School science text after almost two weeks. My understanding is that Jeff has ordered the text but we have not received a confirmed delivery date.
