This afternoon we continued working on our expository essay and Bobby is definitely making progress. During this session, Bobby introduced two or three opposing thoughts or arguments in his essay. One of the biggest takeaways from this exercise has been the obvious need to organize your thoughts in an outline form prior to beginning the essay. Once we discussed a given point and examined differing points of view, the writing effort became easier.
We reviewed the parts of the Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic cells to prepare for a test. Eukaryotic cells contain membrane-bound organelles, including a nucleus. Eukaryotes can be single-celled or multi-celled, such as you, me, plants, fungi, and insects. Bacteria are an example of prokaryotes. Prokaryotic cells do not contain a nucleus or any other membrane-bound organelle.
Bobby combined simple sentences with conjunctions to make complex sentences. He edited a paragraph. He corrected spelling, capitalization, verb usage, and punctuation errors (Daily Edit.) We discussed adding spelling next week. Bobby read two chapters in "A long Walk to Water." He will read two selections and complete the comprehension questions on read theory.org for homework.
This afternoon, Bobby will identify the organelles of an animal cell while describing their function. He will also be asked to identify several important cellular functions as well. Homework will consist of a comparison between a plant and animal cell and identify what organelles they have in common and which ones they do not.
We took this opportunity to practice our note taking skills by picking up where we left off with the LIFE video. We reviewed our responses from the Fossil Blunders assessment and discussed how we might improve the level of detail in our notes. no homework
This afternoon we continued to focus on the next segment of our expository essay. Bobby did a good job of completing the biographical portion of the essay and completed a concise description of what event took place sparking this controversy. We will now present at least two or more opposing viewpoints either in support or opposition to Colin Kaepernick's actions. We are making progress slowly but surely. On a separate note, Bobby must use his daily planner in ALL of his subject classes. I will be checking this notebook before the weekend.
