During today's session, Chris was attentive and shared his completed MS Powerpoint on 3rd Parties within the U.S. This project was an "eye opener" as many young citizens/students have little knowledge or awareness of the existence of 3rd Parties in the US due to the dominance of Democratic and Republican Parties.
We studied the connected symbols of the tractor, the swamps, and the neglected African -American graveyard. David did well recognizing that the tractor has destroyed the cane fields that were cultivated for a century by the Black community. Like the dilapidated Black graveyard, White society has attempted to erase the history and accomplishments of the Black community. We further discussed the quest for dignity that is a theme of the novel and why the Old men decide now at this late stage of life to make a statement by their actions. David took notes and also answered in writing comprehension questions about the reading.
