Brad had a great session today. We were interrupted by one case of the giggles. We acknowledged the giggles and laughed as hard as we could for 30 seconds. Then we proceeded with the session. This approached worked well with several prompts to settle down at the end of laugh time. Overall, Brad was very focused. Again, he required little cueing to take turns reading today's social story. He actively brainstormed for situations to use 'excuse me'. We began his social language dictionary for common phrases and situations when they should be used. Brad drew a great picture of someone sneezing and then saying 'excuse me'. He was confused and kept trying to say 'bless me', but he ultimately understood that someone else should say 'bless you' and the person who sneezed should say 'excuse me'. Brad really seems to be opening up more and more and participating more each session. He's making better eye contact and heeding directions with fewer prompts.

Lesson Comments
Brad remained very focused today. There was minimal physical stim behavior and minimal need for redirection. Overall, he seems to respond better to my cues compared to when we first started working together. Establishing a routine with him appears effective. He did a great job sorting pictures of foods into two piles: those I like and those I don't like. Then he pasted the pictures in one of two columns. He successfully followed the verbal model to tell me about foods he likes and food he doesn't like. We talked about proper ways to say you like or don't like something. Because he sneezed and wiped his nose with his hands several times, we talked about hand washing too. (using sanitizer). He required fewer cues today to respond to prompts. Overall, he had a great week.

Lesson Comments
Brad had a great session today. His physical behavior was increased from yesterday, but he was responsive to cues to 'hug himself', 'use quiet hands', etc. He took turns reading during our opening story with minimal prompts. The routine of always starting with a story seems an effective approach as it helps him anticipate what is expected of him. We looked at familiar pictures of people feeling emotions. We made a 4-fold paper (Brad did a great job listening/watching and following directions to make his match mine.) It took a lot of prompting, but Brad was able to provide several examples of things that made him feel both happy and sad. He was able to represent those things by drawing a picture and then writing a sentence below the picture. As a reward, he got select a picture to color from today's session. He didn't ask once if it was time to go yet (yesterday he asked about 8 times toward the end of the session). He was engaged and participative.
