Science: Reviewed characteristics of different types of matter. Discussed how matter can be changed in many ways -dIt can change form and state. We can change matter with our hands by ripping,tearing, stretching, squashing, folding, cutting. Looked around room for matter we could change with our hands- paper, rubber bands, towels, balls, etc.
Quinn was absent - Dr. Rizzo. Calendar-review of Spanish terms related to Cinco de Mayo. Stuffed Piñata with candy/toys. Oliver/Anna spent 45 minutes just looking at beginner level books and taking turns reading to each other. This is difficult to do when Quinn is here because he becomes so overly concerned about what the other kids are doing to the point that he cannot focus to read. Listening Center -'Monkey Chatter' and comprehension sheet. Transplanted the butterfly garden sprouts. Logged Chia Pet observations. Printing numbers, first and last name.

Oliver was absent today. Anna and Quinn were 45 minutes late. Calendar- Read the book 'The Lovely Month of May' and did comprehension worksheet. Discussed May Day. Made May Day baskets. Reviewed coin names - played coin bingo. Practiced writing 1-10 on counting worksheet. Made a variety of paper flowers to put in May baskets. (Quinn's cutting and printing skills have improved greatly.) Quinn read word cards and sentence strips. Introduced the word 'car' - he printed it all over the board. Anna: worksheet matching phrases to illustrations. Read story on star fall.com. Took a walk and picked wild flowers for May Day. Spelled words on iPad.
Calendar - names of coins review worksheet - played 'toss the coin into the fountain' . Told them math stories and they drew pictures and wrote an equation. Used the Hokey Pokey to Review 'right' and 'left'. Reviewed sight words together and individually. Anna/Oliver read Lippencott Book 5. Quinn read book 1 again -he still has difficulty - guesses -jumps all over the page. I read book 5 with him. He was able to read some of the words like 'at' and 'up'. He really tries to sound out the words but he can't seem to keep the sounds in order. Practiced printing first names and began introducing last names. Discussed Cinco de Mayo-meaning of 'fiesta', 'piñata' and sombrero. Discussed why sombreros are good hats to wear in hot sun. Looked at Mexican designs and decorated a picture of a sombrero, Made birthday cards for Ashley.
