Lesson Outline
Richard did well determining the vowel in CVC (consonant vowel consonant) words. We continue to work on rhyme production, onset fluency, blending and adding phonemes and isolating the final sound. Richard enjoyed listening to 'Three Bill Goats Gruff'. He did well identifying plot elements. Sight words were reviewed. Richard is beginning to 'count up' when subtracting. He did well matching 2D and solid shapes with everyday objects. Describing words were introduced. Richard and I drew pictures on the online whiteboard and then used words to describe our pictures.

Richard was somewhat distracted by toys in his room. However, he was easily redirected.
Sight words were reviewed. Given a picture whose name begins with an l-blend, Richard was tasked with circling pictures with the same l-blend. He listened to a passage about Groundhog Day and did well answering questions related to the characters, setting and cause and effect. Richard did well sounding sound words when spelling words in sentences dictated. We continue to work on solid shapes, addition of single-digit numbers and calendar skills.
Richard did well completing an assessment on short vowels. We reviewed sight words and completed activities using new sight words. Richard enjoyed listening to clues about animals and then drawing conclusions about what animal was described. He did well on a math spiral review of past concepts learned. The names of solid figures were reviewed. Richard circled objects that had the same shape as the solid shapes displayed. We continue to practice one-digit subtraction and the months of the year.

The genre of fables was introduced. Print and plot elements, as well as the lesson of the fable were discussed. Richard drew a picture and wrote about holding a snake yesterday. He completed the first half of a short vowel assessment. Additionally, Richard completed a cut and paste story sequencing activity. Months of the year were practiced. The solid figures of cube, sphere, cone and cylinder were introduced. We went on a shape hunt through the school. Richard did well identifying which solid shape different every day objects were.

Richard read a short book entitled, 'Dan and the Fan'. He benefits from encouragement to sound the words out, rather than guess based on the pictures. He did well sorting pictures based on the short vowel sound they contained. We contnue to practice rhyme recognition, initial and final sounds and segmenting, adding and substituting phonemes. Richard practiced writing c and o with proper spacing. He enjoyed a game of 'Connect 4 Addition'. The concept of symmetry was introduced and practiced. Richard began to learn the months of the year today. He enjoyed practicing phonetic skills online.

Richard enjoyed listening to 'Bear Feels Sick'. Plot and print elements were identified and discussed. Richard wrote in his journal about what happens when he is sick. He practiced writing capital letters with proper sizing. Richard did well categorizing pictures by the short vowel sound they contained. Sight words were reviewed. Richard worked on subtracting single digit numbers using manipulatives. The concept of same size and shape in geometry was introduced and practiced.

Richard did well on an assessment of short vowel sounds in three letter words. We continue to work on rhyming, initial and final sounds and language awareness. Richard is encouraged to write letters so that they touch the bottom line of lined paper. He worked hard to read a short book entitled, 'A Vet Can Fix It'. Richard confidently arranged pictures in the order of the story. He earned a 100% on an assessment on shape identification. He enjoyed using manipulatives to see how many shapes were needed to complete a bigger shape. Richard continues to progress in both reading and locating numbers 1-100.

We continue to practice rhyme production, initial and final sounds, segmenting, blending, adding and deleting syllables. Richard enjoyed listening to 'Anansi and the Talking Melon'. Plot and print elements were identified. Richard enjoys hypothesizing what the characters are thinking and how they are feeling. He did well on both sentence dictation and number dictation up to 20. Additionally, we practiced subtraction of single-digit numbers.

Given 2 rhyming words, Richard did well adding his own rhyming word. Given shapes and pictures of objects, Richard confidently named the shapes. The 'counting on' strategy for addition was encouraged as Richard worked on single-digit addition flashcards. Richard successfully recited the days of the week and counted by tens to 100 (without a chart).
