Richard enjoyed listening to the first two chapters of 'Mouse Soup'. Focus was on characters, sequence, genre and print elements. He had fun writing in his journal about a trick he might play involving his 'baby brother'. We continue to practice onset fluency, isolating medial sounds and substituting, adding and deleting phonemes. He completed the color an l-blend activity. Richard practiced using the counting up strategy when solving one-digit subtraction problems. Days of the week, months of the year and skip counting by tens were all reviewed. Richard learned that halves must have two equal parts. He practiced identifying halves of pictures and sets.

In the book we are reading, the mouse plays tricks on other animals. Richard was asked to write about a trick he might play on someone. He was very considerate in trying to think of a trick that involved his brother, but would not hurt or scare him.

Richard was tasked with writing the capital letter stated. He did well coloring pictures by beginning l-blend sound. Sight words were reviewed. Richard enjoyed spelling the name of the picture shown and matching words to pictures online. Given a picture, Richard identified given solid shapes within the scene. Manipulatives and pictures were utilized to illustrate equal parts. Richard did well identifying the pictures and sets with equal parts. He completed a spiral review of previously learned skills. With the last few minutes, Richard completed patterns online.

Richard read 'Sam and Nan', a book that uses one syllable, short vowel words and sight words. He benefits from encouragement to read the words rather than guess based on the pictures. We continue to practice rhyme production, onset fluency, isolating medial sounds, and adding and substituting initial phonemes. After listening to 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar', Richard put pictures of the story in the correct sequence. He did well with reviews on telling time to the hour, identifying solid shapes and calendar skills.

Richard did well matching consonant, vowel, consonant words with the pictures they named. He enjoyed a Valentine's Day craft that involved cutting and gluing. Richard was tasked with drawing a picture and writing about something he loved. Given a bag of candy hearts with varying amounts of colors, Richard sorted candy hearts by color and then graphed the numbers of the various colors. Additionally, he wrote tally marks for the different colors.

Richard worked hard to circle the r-blend word that named the picture. He did well drawing conclusions from given scenarios. The letters v and w were practiced with attention given to sizing of the letters. Richard completed a solid shape assessment. We worked on using the 'count up' strategy when subtracting one digit numbers. Using a chart, Richard was able to recite the months of the year without any help.

Print and plot elements were identified and discussed. Richard did well on sentence and number dictation. He drew a picture and wrote a sentence about a food he likes. Richard matched solid figure flat surfaces to the correct 2D shapes. He counted to 100! We continue to practice reciting the months of the year.

R-blends were introduced. Richard was tasked with identifying the pictures with the same r blend. Given pictures of pizza being made, Richard was tasked with putting the pictures in the correct sequence and using time-order words to described the pizza making process. He did well reading a book that included short vowels, one-syllable words and sight words. Richard worked with manipulatives and pictures to identify the flat surface shapes of solid shapes. We practiced adding and subtracting using flashcards. Richard did very well telling time to the hour.

He did well circling the l-blend word that named the picture. Richard practiced rhyme production, onset fluency, isolating medial sounds and adding and substituting phonemes. Sight words and identifying numbers 0-100 were practiced. Richard completed a mixed addition and subtraction activity where he was encouraged to pay attention to the signs. He used the solid figure manipulatives to complete a chart illustrating whether shapes rolled, stacked and or slid.

Richard enjoyed and was intrigued manipulating solid shapes to see which ones slid, rolled and stacked. He tried many combinations with different amounts of force. We played a game of addition Connect Four, an activity that fosters the 'counting on' strategy. We continue to practice calendar skills and l-blends and blending sounds.
