Richard and I began our session with a Math Seeds game. Richard then began working on a Stanford practice test to prepare him for standardized testing next week. We will complete this practice test during our next session.

Richard enjoyed listening to 'Are You My Mother?'. He did well stating the setting, problem and solution, and identifying the beginning, middle and end of the story. He chose to write about Pokemon characters in his journal. Richard continues to engage in activities to strengthen his phonics skills. He confidently completed a cut and paste, sequencing activity. Richard worked on making and interpreting pictographs. He enjoyed a number recognition game. Handwriting with proper letter and word spacing continue to be an area of focus.
Richard continues to practice rhyme production, identification of initial, medial and final sounds and phoneme manipulation. He did well identifying pictures whose name have the long o sound. Richard enjoyed a game of sight word bingo. He worked hard on his sentence dictation. Two dimensional and solid shapes were reviewed. Richard enjoyed conducting a survey, graphing the data and interpreting the graph. He practiced skip counting and calendar skills. Richard earned a 100% on an online math assessment. He worked on number words and counting backward from ten online.

Jack did well reading a passage entitled, 'Your Five Senses' and writing answers to questions about the text. He was tasked with writing the name of the letter of the beginning sound of given words. Jack started to create a book about his family. He will add to the book each session. Jack enjoyed a game of sight word bingo. Additionally, he did well on graphing activities.

Richard enjoyed listening to the story. Plot and print elements were identified and discussed. Today's journal prompt was, 'If I had a robot . . .' Richard continues to practice reading and writing words with the consonant, long vowel, consonant, final e spelling pattern. Richard played a timed addition and subtraction game. He did well graphing information and interpreting the graphs. Richard confidently completed a spiral practice of learned math skills.

Richard worked hard on rhyme production, initial and final sound identification and phoneme manipulation involving digraphs. Sight words and number words were practiced. Given words, Richard was tasked with putting the cards in the correct sequence to create complete sentences. He wrote the names of pictures shown. Richard enjoyed surveying teachers on which of two foods they liked best. Richard made and interpreted a graph with the data. He completed number dictation on random numbers between 0-100.

After Richard read a passage entitled, 'A Pig in a Pen', he answered questions about the text. Richard earned a 100% on the free response and performance sections of an assessment on money. Given three pictures, Richard did well determining which two rhymed and then creating another rhyming word. Sentence dictation included words with initial blends and words with the long vowel/silent e spelling pattern. Richard listened to a nonfiction book today. We discussed the difference between fiction and none fiction. Richard practiced reading number words one-five and skip counting by tens and by fives. He scored a 100% on the first half of an assessment on money.

Richard reread 'The Pets' so that he could experience reading fluently. He drew a picture of a snack he created and wrote a description. Richard continues to practice reading sight words and words that have the long i sound. He did well adding and subtracting. The 'counting up' strategy of addition was reviewed and practiced. Richard confidently showed two different ways to make monetary amounts using plastic coins. He was introduced to the number words. Additionally, Richard practiced solving words problems online and earned a 100% on an online assessment.
Jack created the last page and back cover of his book today. He worked hard on the book and was pleased and proud of the finished product. Jack practiced creating and interpreting graphs. He enjoyed a game in which he took two steps every time he read a sight word on his way to the playground. Jack enjoyed a brief break between the two hours and learned how to play corn hole.
