Lesson Outline
Today Gwendolyn began or session working in her Sadlier Vocabulary book on Unit 12. She completed a synonym and antonym activity and a fill in the blank sentence writing activity. When she was finished, she wrote a piece about her favorite restaurants.
16-3 Percent, Fractions, and Decimals
We learned that a part of a whole or a part of a set can be represented by a fraction, a decimal, and a percent. Then we learned that when a fraction or ratio is converted to hundredths, the process of finding the percent and decimal is simply one of rewriting the fraction in the appropriate notation.
Today Gwendolyn and I worked on our ball handling skills. We played a variety of activities to practice different skills. We finished our time reading in the book we are going through together.
16-2 Understanding Percent
We learned that a percent is a special kind of ratio in which a part is compared to a whole with 100 parts or 100%. Then we learned that percent is relative to the size of the whole.
Gwendolyn and I looked at Title IX this morning. We began researching the history of golf from various sources and we looked to two videos. We learned that golf started very long ago and became popular near the time of Christopher Columbus in the 15th Century, tracing its beginnings to Scotland. We looked at a timeline and famous tournaments and golfers. We also learned how the ball and the club evolved. We also learned that the reason for golf's popularity then was because Kings and Queens enjoyed the sport. It was banned in Scotland because it was a distraction to military preparation for war. We also learned about the purpose of dimples on the ball. We will continue in our next class.
Today Gwendolyn ran three laps with her hockey stick. At the park she practiced passing the ball, dribbling and slap shots into the goal. She also stopped balls as the goalie.
Today we continued with the exercises from last class on the verb To Be form Estar and played a game which helped us to practice the conjugation of SER. We put the verbs in context. We learned and practiced the Spanish speaking countries' capitals. In addition, we learned more in detail about Shakira and the Latino culture and influence in the US.
Lesson 3 – What body parts enable movement, support, respiration, and circulation? - We learned about the Respiratory System. We breathe with lungs that are spongy organs that expand to fill with air. Air enters your body through a tube in your throat called the trachea. The trachea branches into two smaller tubes called bronchi where the bronchi enter the lungs they branch into many bronchioles. At the end of each bronchial is a tiny sack called the alveoli that inflates like a tiny balloon when you breathe. When you exhale air flows back out of the alveoli and out of the lungs. People breathe about 20 times per minute and each breath takes in about 1 L of air.
Asthma Attacks - We learned how an asthma attack affects the lungs. Smoke, air pollution, and allergies trigger asthma attacks. When an asthma attack begins a person’s bronchi become swollen. The swelling makes their airways smaller causing them to cough, wheeze, or feel like a weight is on their chest. Medication is needed to return a person’s airways to normal.
Assignment
We drew the lungs and learned where the trachea, bronchus, bronchioles, and alveoli are situated.
