I was unable to disable elmo and share the screen with Jackson today. His laptop does not have a file that will allow him to finish the Haiti project. I have decided to grade what he has done to date. He registered for an online Stock Market game before the end of the session.
Jackson and I watched videos of hitters and talked about their swings. We talked about the importance of getting his front foot down early and keeping his weight balanced. We also talked about taking the knob of the bat directly to the ball.
Jackson and I watched the NASA rocket launch from Cape Canaveral for the first part of class. We then worked on editing several paragraphs to correct errors in punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
design fundamentals. Jackson worked on his next study in the style of "cubism." We talked about Picasso and Braque. Discussed the characteristics of this style and put them to use in his own creation. He traced his hand three times to show the intersecting lines and then added color. Great results.
We reviewed square roots, and some cube roots, then started to simplify square root functions without perfect squares (such as the square root of 24). Then I introduced Pythagorean Theorem to him and we did a couple of examples.
Jackson finished his research paper today. He reviewed his notes to ensure he included everything, added the in-text citations, created a references page, and added the header.
Jackson completed several online quizzes to review the grammar we have studied this year. The quizzes included subject-verb agreement, sentence structure, and pronouns.
This was our first Skype session with Jackson in NYC. Not surprisingly, we had some technical issues with two dropped calls, necessitating hanging up and rebooting. We worked through the beginning of the John Sandford novel, "Heat Lightning," and explored the author's use of a "hook" to hook the reader into wanting to read more.

Jackson was very attentive for the entire session. Our plan is to examine Stephen King's book "On Writing" for the next several sessions.
