Lesson Outline
Today Maya and I continued working on her countries around the world unit. We started by working on Maya’s project on types of cities. She wanted to draw more of New York City and working on a picture of the suburbs. Then, we read in our Social Studies textbook about Canada. Today we learned about Josie who lives in Canada. We learned how Josie is an Inuit and it is very cold where she lives. It is so cold that she has to ride a snowmobile to school. We looked at another book about Canada. We discuss where Canada was located on the map. Then we went and watched a Brainpop video about the Inuit’s. We finished our session by answering questions about the video we watched on the computer. At the end, I asked Maya about Canada and she was able to tell me it was cold there. She was also able to tell me how Josie got to school and that she fishes in the ice.

Lesson Outline
Today Maya completed a 2-12X table drill. Then she completed her homework from last last night. This involved using tangram pieces to create new shapes and identifying the lines of symmetry. Maya completed her review packet for her test on Topic 11 tomorrow. In LB, Maya continued to verbalize details from a moment in school yesterday. She created a bulleted list. It was a challenge for her to stay on topic. Maya recalled some of the conversation and meals eaten during this moment. This is part of her prewriting activity. Great work!

Lesson Outline
Today Maya had a happy day. Miss Heidi came to substitute for one of her peers. She was very excited! Maya began math by completing a multiplication drill. After, she was given 7 shapes to color and identify. These seven shapes formed what is called a tangram. Maya was engaged in manipulating these figures to form new shapes. Maya created rectangles and squares with different size triangles and parallelograms. She was able to express which figures of the tangram are congruent and symmetrical. In LB, Maya is going to be working on a new writing piece. Today she jotted down some notes on some of the details that she was able to recall through visualization. This will be a work in progress. Maya set up her structure cards in order to provide herself additional support. Maya continued in her FF program, completing her daily protocol.

Lesson Outline
It was very nice to meet Maya today. We began our session with Maya continuing to work on her types of cities graphic organizer. Maya showed me pictures of the different types of cities and explained each one to me. He finished her urban city drawing and began drawing a suburban city. She then was ready to move on and learn about people in Japan. Maya did a very good job reading the book Japan Today. We talked about how children in Japan have a longer school year and go to school three days a week. We also learned about the bullet trains that go really fast. Maya said she was hungry so we decided it was a great time to take a snack break. When we returned we read in Maya’s Social Studies Alive book about Kazuo who lives in Japan. Maya thought it was funny that Kazuo’s parents ate rice and eggs for breakfast. Then Maya cut out a picture of Kazuo. She used a book about Japan to find out the name of Japan’s capital city and what continent it is located in. She then added this information to a large sheet of paper and drew a picture of the Japan flag.

Today Maya and I each read another fable from Level M Aesop's Fables to each other and then determined the moral for each story. Next, we began the prewriting stage for Maya's fable. She chose her animal characters and formulated a moral for her story. Then she her the voice of Miss Heidi:) She was so happy to see her. She was so excited, it was hard for her to stay focused on her writing, so we decided to go through and add all of her new work to her language arts binder. We also played "I'm Thinking" with the balloon.

Lesson Outline
Today Maya completed a practice multiplication drill which included random facts through 1-12X. She also reviewed how to recognize symmetric figures and lines of symmetry. Maya learned in lesson 11-3 to draw shapes when given half of the figure and a line of symmetry. Learning these skills will prepare students for creating their own symmetric figures using tangrams in the next lesson. Maya practiced folding paper (rectangular and square) to determine how many lines of symmetry could be found. Maya continued in her FF program. She did a super job, beating ALL 3 of her highest scores! Great work, Maya!
