Today in math class Maya reviewed material from last Friday's lesson in order to build onto in Lesson 12-2. She learned to use a fraction to describe a part of a region, and draw a picture of a region to show a fraction. Maya continues to build her math vocabulary with terms such as numerator and denominator. She was demonstrated how some fractions can look different, but may be equivalent. Maya's effort in FF today was not as strong as usual. She was exhausted by the end of the day and expressed she is still feeling under the weather. In LB, Maya is taking pleasure in writing about a memorable event where she is recording important details, and now sequencing them. She is looking forward to the final product.
Classify matter as a solid, liquid, or gas. Relate the properties of solids, liquids, gases to the arrangements of the particles that compose them. Recognize and identify physical changes in matter. Define a mixture and give example of common mixtures.
Maya was motivated to type her fable completely independently today. We spent our time together in the lab working on her fable. I was very impressed with Maya because she automatically did some revising and editing as she typed. I was particularly impressed with her willingness to add more to her story. When she noticed spelling errors she wanted me to fix them for her. I helped her with spelling by identifying smaller words or parts within the tricky word or by using other words with the same pattern. At first she was resistant, but then took the direction well as she saw she could fix her mistakes on her own. She also seemed to overcome her confusion with spelling the word said:) I am very proud of her!

Today Maya was so resistant to the editing and revision process at first, but then did wonderfully drafting and improving her fable. I. Did have to redirect her countless times in the lab, but that is understandable with all of the traffic in there :)
Today Maya performed a practice drill for the multiplication tables. These were random 0-12X tables. This is more challenging for Maya, and she is doing great. She should continue to practice her tables at home, until they all become committed to memory. Maya began a new unit on fractions. She explored fraction concepts through identifying regions that have been divided into equal-sized parts. She also divided regions into equal-sized parts. Maya learned new vocabulary and we will continue to reinforce these terms throughout Topic 12. In FF Maya continued her program and beat her high score in Dog Bones. In LB, Maya explored opening sentences (hooks) that writers often use to get their audience/readers interested. She looked at many examples of hooks that used onomatopoeia, questions, similes, and metaphors. We discussed these examples in order to begin her writing piece. Great work this week, Miss Maya!
We studied the dragon poses (lunges) today (twisted, flying, fire breathing) and practiced several variations. New pose: thread the needle. Maya also practiced some gymnastics and worked on the exercise balls today. We took some time to look at and organize the Yoga flash cards. Handout for yoga folder: scorpion pose

Maya made a very good conclusion about which object takes up the most space.
Today Maya finished her comprehension test on Level M Aesop's Fables. We worked on going back to the source to look for the answer when unsure. She did an excellent job of referring to the text when needed. Then she completed her fable draft and lastly, we played a prediction game.
Maya was in a great mood this morning. She came into her office ready to work. Today during Wilson, Maya completed all 3 of her worksheets. She was on tasked and worked very hard during the entire session!
Maya continued in her FF program. She played three brain games. We had some time left over and Maya was well prepared to take her test on Topic 11 in math. She finished quickly and scored a 100. Super work, Miss Maya!
