LCF and GCM: Devon did a great job today finding the Greatest Common Multiple and the Least Common Factor. I am very proud of Devon doing her lesson and moving forward with math. Great job Devon.
Fast Forward
Reading - Introduce vocabulary - ambitious, drowsy, lounge, agonized, revived, dwelling, pondering, and vapors. Explain that some words have multiple meanings, such as, lounge - as a verb - to pass time lazily or as a noun- a room for lounging or being at ease, also a noun - a couch or sofa…give other examples of words with multiple meanings. Then read/discuss orally "Voice from Vesuvius" using context clues to determine word meanings. Devon had a good session!
Writing - Read/discuss poem "Mama is a Sunrise" - use critical thinking skills to analyze poem. Then discuss possible writing topics…choose one.
English - Explain/give examples of possessive and indefinite pronouns, for example, possessive pronouns - my, mine, his, hers, ours, theirs, etc. I forgot to bring my book…my tells whose book it is. An indefinite pronouns - anyone, everybody, everyone, someone, nobody, etc. Someone left this book on the desk. An indefinite pronoun does not have an antecedent. Complete exercises. Devon did well on the exercises…seemed excited about the writing assignment she chose. We had a good discussion about the poem. It was touching and very insightful.
Come up with a composition for a representational collage.
Go through magazines and collect appropriate colors and textures.
Start gluing down background.
Today we focused on the left and right brain and activities that are related to each hemisphere. Devon was working on a art/craft project, so I asked her to tell me which side of the brain was used for this activity. I also had her identify the senses she was using in her work. We discussed how some people are more dependent on one hemisphere of the brain and it was decided that She was a right brain person. We then progressed to an illustration of the brain showing where in the brain some attribute are associated. I showed Devon some video of people who had lost some function of specific parts of the brain; a man who had no short term memory, and young man who' s personality was changed by a head injury, and a woman who had a trauma in her brain and lost her ability to see. These were reminders on why it is important to wear helmets when bike riding, and a seatbelt while traveling in a car.
Devon reviewed the images we collected during our filming session on Tuesday and were repaired during the batch repair. There were some sequences that were filmed in reverse order, so Devon found these sequences and re-numbered them to fall in correct order. She found some more images that needed to be corrected, using Photoshop batch repair. She removed all images that had a fair exposure, and ran a batch automated repair on the others.
Devon reviewed the images we collected during our filming session on Tuesday. She found some images that needed to be added or corrected, using Photoshop. She created three images that will help with the video, and corrected some images. She removed all images that had a fair exposure, and ran a batch automated repair on the others.
