Jack read ‘How Bear Lost His Tail’ a story slightly above his independent reading level. Our focus while reading was using strategies for working out unfamiliar words, especially blending letter sounds to decode. Jase practiced blending and segmenting words containing consonant blends and digraphs. We also reviewed 4 of the syllable types and marked up words with these types. Finally, we read the next chapter of ‘Trapped in a Video Game,’ focusing on reading accurately.
Jack practiced the spelling patterns - or, - ore, and -oar, noticing when to use each. We manipulated each pattern using magnetic letter tiles and changing one word to another. He completed the book ‘A Dog Like Scruff’ and reread a selection from the book (text only) at a rate of 63 words correct per minute.
Jase read the next chapter in ‘Trapped in A Video Game’ with our primary focus being self-monitoring for errors and self-correcting. We also practiced breaking apart multi-syllable words and blending sounds.
Jase continued reading ‘Trapped in a Video Game,’ resuming with chapter 9. Our focus while reading was reading accurately, monitoring, and self-correcting errors without prompting. We also practiced breaking multi-syllable words and blending syllables.
