Lesson Outline
Dillon started today's session with a reading passage from his homework packet. He answered comprehension questions and reviewed his spelling words for the week. Next, Dillon worked on reading standard 3RL1.3 which focuses on describing characters and how their actions contribute to the sequence of events. He did an excellent job finding text evidence to support his responses. He was very motivated today and was working hard to get "100%",

Questioning and supporting evidence
Lesson Outline
Dillon began the session by completing a quick homework assignment. I read the next chapter of his independent reading book to him, and he then chose a question to answer from the teacher's list. Next, he read a Newsela article about the coming flu season. Before reading he turned the bold faced headings into questions and then read and answered the question. This helped to reinforce the practice of self-monitoring for comprehension. He did a great job! Then, he answered the comprehension questions that went along with the article. He answered them all correctly and used his test taking strategies as he responded to the questions. He did a really fine job today and was very focused.

Xavier was very pleasant today. He readily worked on spelling when I allowed him to play a game between spelling and math. He likes to play a game while I read to him, but he understands what I am reading.
