We read one article about Mother's Day, and one about the world's oldest murder case being solved? He likes short videos. So, we watched a short video about scarcity. Last, I read a loud part of an article about stocks. I asked him a few questions to assess his awareness related to economics and stocks. I feel it is best to move on to other topics. I asked Ethan to think of areas that interest him. Economics is very dry. It was my least favorite class to take and teach--I understand what he is experiencing.
Ethan continued to practice reducing fractions. He played a fishing game online and had to reduce the fraction to catch the fish. He wrote out the steps and identified the GCF for each fraction. Ethan watched a brain pop video on reducing fractions. Ethan took the quiz at the end to practice his understanding. Ethan watched a video on coordinate planes and ordered pairs on you tube. He identified the ordered pair for the fruit on the coordinate plane. He identified the fruit when given the ordered pair.

Ethan went to a favorite recipe online and added different fractional ingredients together. Ethan went to his favorite restaurant in New York City on the internet. He downloaded the menu and created multiple situations which made him add and subtract decimals. Ethan split a pizza on the menu with three people and used division to find how much each person needed to pay.

Today Ethan spent the majority of our time working in his creative writing journal. He made a list of what he considered to be the most amazing jobs for adults. Then, he picked one that he would like to have when he grows up and he wrote about why he chose it. When he was finished, he read from his chapter book.
Today we worked with adding and subtracting decimals using problems in daily life situations. Also, we watched a video on why is important to know math and how everybody is capable of doing it.
Lesson 1 – How Do Organisms Change with the Seasons?
We compared the seasonal changes in Florida plants and animals to those in other regions of the country. We learned that every place in the United States has four seasons but the places that get less direct sunlight tend to have colder winters. The seasonal changes in temperature and sunlight affect living things. We learned that maple trees are dormant or have a rest period during winter. This means that plants save energy in the winter when there is less sunlight. When it is warmer and the hours of daylight increase, the maple tree begins to bud and the buds turn into leaves. Many plants grow and reproduce in spring. In summer when the hours of daylight are longer and the temperatures are warmer plants continue to grow and get taller. Then in fall when temperatures cool down and daylight decreases leaves change color and fall to the ground.
Assignment
We completed an activity where we matched the word to the organism and a wordplay of vocabulary terms.
silent reading, vocabulary unit 9, creative writing, and Reading Eggs

Ethan and I watched videos of MLB players making great defensive plays. We talked about how all of them still set their feet in the direction of first base, even after diving on the ground. We talked about the correct footwork when fielding ground balls. We also watched a video of the farther home runs hit in the MLB and we talked about all the hitters getting their foot down with their weight on their back leg.
design fundamentals. Ethan worked on two designs today, to show the use of "Op" art. We talked about several artists that helped to develop this style of the 1960's. His results were very good.
