Ayden did a nice job in Fast ForWord today. He read 3 different passages in Book Monkeys and answered questions for comprehension. In this brain game he must answer the questions correctly in order to proceed. When an answer is answered incorrectly, he must reread the passage and answer the question again. Ayden also played Canine Crew where he matched up various vocabulary words with their synonym. In Twisted Picture he listened to a description of a picture and had to find the corresponding picture from a choice of four different pictures. This game helps improve auditory, attention, and memory skills.

Today Ayden began math by reviewing his homework. He did not complete his practice page. We went over his incorrect answers. I reminded him to double check his answers. Then he completed problems in the lesson for today which was solving problems by drawing a picture and writing an equation. These problems were mostly addition and subtraction problems. He took a 5X table drill and did well. He is improving!!

Today Ayden began math by reviewing his homework from last night. Most of them were incorrect so we redid it together. He said his brother helped him. He also did not complete it. Then he practiced his 5x facts and proceeded to his Daily Review and Lesson 2-5. Today Ayden learned to subtract across zeros by regrouping. He appeared to grasp this skill and successfully solved many problems like this independently. In Fast ForWord he played the following brain games: Hog Hat Zone-it includes cloze passages, Scrap Cat- he identifies nouns, verbs, and adjectives, and Twisted Pictures- he identifies pictures to match an auditory message.

Math/Fast ForWord
Lesson Outline
Today Ayden began his math lesson by practicing his 5x tables. He did a timed drill, and then proceeded to learn lesson 2-5, Subtracting Whole Numbers. Ayden subtracted numbers to thousands with and without regrouping. He practiced several problems with guidance and then did some independently. He already had some background knowledge about regrouping. We discussed and practiced rounding to get an estimate before solving the actual problem. Then after he solved the problem he compared both answers to check to see if the answer seemed reasonable. We also discussed subtraction being the inverse operation of addition, and that he can use addition to check his answers in subtraction problems. In Fast ForWord, Ayden did a great job today. He read very well and was more careful about choosing the "best answer". He played Canine Crew, Book Monkeys and Twisted Pictures. These activities help improve decoding skills and knowledge of rhyme, synonyms, and homophones. He paired words according to semantic and phonological principles. Great job today, Ayden!
