Today Ayden reviewed some homework problems that he had questioned. Then he did a 5x table drill. He is showing improvement. He should be studying his flashcards at home daily. Then he did his daily spiral review, which touched on content taught up until now. He did well. Then he did his problem of the day. He received a 100% on his test last week on topic 1. Go, Ayden!! Then he began his lesson on topic 2-3. In this lesson Ayden was able to read word problems and decide which operation to perform. Some problems gave too much information, where others didn't give enough information. He had to figure out what the problem is asking for and what missing information he would need to solve the problem. Ayden continued his program in Fast ForWord. We spent a little extra time in math so he only completed one activity in the program Chicken Dog. This helps improve spelling, decoding, and sensitivity to letter sound correspondence.

Ayden did very well. He really pays attention and tries very hard in class. We are still working on using proper technique so he does not develop any bad habits, so we spend a good deal of time correcting things. He understands everything so far and is just developing the strength and coordination to be able to play correctly.
Ayden was a half hour late today for math. He did not complete any of his homework. I explained to him that this is his responsibility. We completed some of it yesterday, so I know he could have completed it independently. It is very important that Ayden do his homework, as it is independent practice and it provides a time to see what he knows and remembers from the day's lesson. Also, he should be practicing his multiplication tables (0,1,2,and 5X). I quickly went over today's lesson after he did a 5x drill for time. Today's lesson focused on estimating/rounding numbers to solve addition and subtraction problems mentally. He was successful at solving problems on his own and demonstrated that he understands this concept. In Fast ForWord he worked on his program which is helping to develop his reading skills. The three software programs that he worked on today help to develop auditory, visual, and linguistic processing of orally presented words, sentences, and stories for meaning and comprehension. He demonstrates improvement when he rereads sentences that he initially read and do not make sense. I keep reminding him that it will make the questions easier to answer if he can be sure he understands what he has read. Another strategy we have been working on is for him to "create a movie in his mind" of each sentence he reads. I am proud of Ayden's efforts everyday!
Ayden was 15 minutes late today. He started by taking his 2x table test. He got a 100%. We went over 5x tables and he now has these flashcards to study. Ayden did not complete his homework assignment last night, so we went over more problems involving mental math today. We will continue to go over this material throughout the week. He appeared to become more confident doing mental math subtraction using the counting on strategy. We also went over using the compensation, and breaking apart numbers strategies to do mental math. The difficult part for him is that he does not know his basic addition and subtraction facts. I will be sending home more fact practice until these become second nature. Ayden continued his Fast ForWord program where he read passages and answered questions for comprehension. He also played a learning game where he matches rhyming words that have both different and/or the same endings, i.e strain/main, bait/fate. This activity helps him improve phonemic awareness. It was a pleasant day, as usual! I always look forward to working with Ayden.
