Teddy completed 3 worksheets of special triangles( 30-60-90; 45-45-90; 3,4,5; 6,8,10; 5,12,13). He struggled filling in the missing sides or angles.
Teddy completed the first 15 problems of section 1 fromt he Princeton Review 2011 Cracking the ACT book. He answered 13/15 correctly without help. Hopefully a great confidence booster for Teddy before he takes the Test.
We reviewed test day tips.
Easy/Medium problems; completing problems without assistance
Lesson Outline
Warmup: Cracking the ACT Princeton Review book; p. 564 35-36. Teddy answered both of these incorrectly initially, then when we reviewed them they appeared to make more sense to him.
CW: PR 1296 ACT Questions book pg 162-164. Teddy answered 4/9 correct without any assistance. We reviewed errors and it appears as if he understands his errors.
1. Teddy did not have his HW.
2. We completed 15 practice problems. Teddy was able to answer 5 correct, completely on his own. I made it a point to limit my hints and interruptions until after he had fully attempted a problem.
1. Reviewed problems from Teddy's practice test. MY focus was to review problems he got wrong within numbers 1-30 because those are intended to be the easier half of the questions. Teddy was able to see his errors as we began going through problems. We reviewed different ways to complete the problems so that he did not fall for their "traps".
2. We then completed 10 medium problems. Teddy needed assistance completing most of them.

Lesson Comments
Teddy did a great job on the practice test, and in fact, could have actually scored better on the English section if not for some easy mistakes. We went back over the test and addressed the mistakes he made. We then reviewed some of the rules of grammar and talked about what he needs to do between now and the test. He agreed to do a practice section each night and at least 5 practice essays.
I was very pleased with how much Teddy has retained from the grammar section since we last went over it. He clearly has reviewed the rules and practiced during the time off. I'm feeling very positive about his progress.
1. Checked HW- Teddy answered 6/7 problems correct. the one he answered incorrectly was a slope intercept question. We then completed 5 additional slope intercept practice questions. Then we completed 8 med questions. I had to give assistance on 7/8.
Before leaving we reviewed some test taking techniques (pacing, POE, choosing problems, guessing) to remember for saturday's practice test.

1. Teddy completed practice problems from a sample test. My objective was to have Teddy work on his own through the problems. He completed 15 problems. He answered 13/15 correct on his own, without any guidance from me. After he answered the question we then talked about the problem; discussing techniques, tricks, his thought process, etc to help him gain insight to the problems. He did a good job working through obstacles. There were 2/15 situations where he answered the question, but his answer was not one of the choices. He looked to me for guidance, but i just looked at him and shrugged my shoulders, thus forcing him to go back and find his error on his own. This is a big step for Teddy because this is what he needs to do on the test; work through obstacles. He was used to doing parts of a problem, then expecting assistance on through the "challenging" parts. Obviously, on the ACT he will not have a tutor for assistance!
I talked with Teddy about what area he felt he needed the most work on, and his answer was the writing, so that's what we focused on today. We went over the basic outline for the essay and talked about developing his ideas and how to transition from one to the next. Afterward, I had Teddy write a practice essay and he did an excellent job. He needs to work on his pacing a bit, but if he follows the formula, he should do well.
